Stakeholder Group of EVOLTREE
Research activities conducted within Evoltree are disseminated to different end-users and stakeholders in Europe. Establishing and facilitating a permanent dialogue with stakeholders belongs to the priorities of the EVOLTREE Network. This will ensure that research findings influence policies and will contribute to sustainable use of forests and their genetic resources.
A number of Stakeholders has been identified among the countries and organizations participating in the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (MCPFE). Another key stakeholder of EVOLTREE is the European Forest Genetic Resources Programme (EUFORGEN). This programme counts five networks involving 112 partners as a whole and covering almost all European countries and has a larger eco-geographic coverage than most EU research projects. Thus, it provides a unique opportunity to facilitate the broad dissemination of results to forest and land managers and other users in the different countries, as well as to promote effective conservation strategies in the long run. In particular, the newly created Forest Management Network aims specifically at bringing together researchers, policy makers and forestry practitioners and represents a significant stakeholder category of end-users.
An Evoltree Stakeholder Group has been created by inviting representatives of different groups, institutions and organizations to participate in the dialogue, to bring the perspective of policy makers, forest managers, nature conservation agencies, associations of forest owners, forest industry associations, non-governmental organizations, universities and others.
This section of the website has been established to facilitate communication with members of the stakeholder group and will be continuously fed with new information. Regular contributions about EVOLTREE outputs and their implications for forest policy making are being prepared and presented in different fora (including the expert-level meetings of the pan-European process on forests (MCPFE). Examples of relevant themes of interest to the Stakeholders include: principles of genetically sustainable forest management, use of appropriate reproductive material for afforestations and reforestations, labelling and tracing the origin of timber based on molecular genetic markers, questions associated with genetically modified organisms. They are participating in their personal capacity to the initiatives of the Stakeholder group and/or receive regular correspondence with information on the activities and outputs of the Network of Excellence.
